VBT : Maintaining One of the Country’s Largest State Highway Networks

For Virginia to properly maintain and repair all of its roads within the next 20 years, we need around $3 billion in annual funding. That's the third largest budget of any state, behind only Texas and North Carolina.

That need for funding makes sense when you know that Virginia also operates the 3rd largest state highway network in the country. 68,000 miles require a lot of upkeep!

But Virginia currently only spends around $200 million per year maintaining roads.

According to the United States Department of Transportation, 47% of roads in Virginia are in “poor / mediocre” shape. And of our 21,000 bridges, over 4,600 are either structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. More funding is essential to maintaining this massive infrastructure network.
