HB2 “certainly was a convener for the conversation, because… the amount of transportation dollars that is coming back to this part of the state is significantly less than northern Virginia and Hampton roads,” according to Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce CEO Christine Kennedy. Kennedy is part of the newly formed Blue Ridge Economic Coalition (BREC), which represents approximately eight counties and three cities in central and southwestern Virginia that have come together in an effort to bolster economic activity and establish priorities, such as transportation infrastructure.

At its monthly meeting today, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awarded 16 contracts worth an approximate total of $173.6 million for major infrastructure work. The projects will improve mobility, enhance safety and extend the life of the state’s transportation network.
